Sixto Rodriguez is the Chicano Bob Dylan that wasn’t. His first two albums flopped (one album sold a grand total of six copies) and he disappeared into obscurity…until a bootleg of one of his recordings made its way into South Africa and became the anthem of a generation. Director Malik Bendjelloul did some digging and found Rodriguez alive, well and completely unaware of the power of his music. “Searching For Sugarman” is the story.
