Grammy-winning Brazilian music legend Sergio Mendez is coming to Miami–we’d like to call our city his home away from home. You can see this es la verdad because the show almost sold out already and will probably be sold out by the time you read this…Mendez is appearing with Elaine Elias, read more on her below.
“Over the course of his groundbreaking career, Sergio Mendes has amassed an astounding track record of 35+ albums recorded and millions sold, and embarked on many musical adventures highlighted by his early ‘60s Bossa Rio Sextet; his worldwide breakthrough group Brasil ’66 (and its many iterations); his 1993 Grammy-winning milestone Brasileiro, which made him the undisputed master of pop-inflected Brazilian jazz; and his CD, Timeless, featuring a remake of the hit “Mas Que Nada” charted at No. 44 on Billboard’s Hot 100. His 2010 recording, Bom Tempo, features indelible melodies and explosive percussion, celebrating the diversity, joy and sensuality of Brazilian music. A Latin Grammy Award-winner, Mendes is considered the undisputed master of pop-inflected Brazilian jazz, and is credited as being the first to take Brazilian music to the masses.” — Arsht Center
“Eliane Elias stands out from other Brazilian singers because she not only has a deep-rooted feel for the rhythms of her native land but also is fluent in the American jazz idiom after spending some 30 years in the United States. Light My Fire showcases her talents as a four-tool player — singer, pianist, arranger and songwriter — with a romantic collection of classic Brazilian songs, American pop and jazz standards set to Brazilian grooves, and original tunes. She’s supported by top flight Brazilian and American musicians, including her rhythm section of guitarist Oscar Castro-Neves, drummer Paulo Braga and her husband, bassist Marc Johnson…a fitting soundtrack for warm summer nights.”–Associated Press
