A Rodrigo y Gabriela performance is, well, Once-meets-Pat Metheney-meets-Tomatito. The folk-rock act, comprised of two guitar virtuosos from Mexico, will be playing songs off their new album, 11:11, at The Fillmore this Saturday.
The Dublin-based duo recorded the follow-up to their 2006 self-titled album in Ixtapa, Mexico. The 11 songs are inspired on artists: “Hanuman,” for example (see video below), was inspired on Carlos Santana; “Santo Domingo” was inspired on Dominican jazz pianist Michel Camilo, and “Hora Zero” was inspired on Argentinean tango legend Astor Piazzolla.
