Spanish auteur Pedro Almodovar’s latest film, Broken Embraces (aka Los abrazos rotos), has his muse Penélope Cruz starring in yet another Oscar-nom-worthy performance.
The film is told in flashbacks by Harry Caine (LluÃs Homar), a blind screenwriter who reveals that before a horrible car accident took his sight he was the famous director Mateo Blanc. Homar’s character once made a movie with his muse Lena (Penélope Cruz) called Chicas y maletas, a kinky comedy reminiscent of Almodovar’s own Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown).
The film’s run has been extended for a week, closing on Thursday, Feb. 11. Also playing at other cinemas around town, such as Tower Theatre, AMC Sunset, West Flagler and Murico in Hialeah.
